Comic con is here. And I am absolutely amped to head down to San Diego.
BUT…
Everytime I’m there. EVERY TIME… I feel like a fraud.
I’ve done a lot in entertainment. A lot more than I ever thought I would, anyway.
Cool animated movies and shows, Scoobynatural! Comics, video game stuff, everything that little Jeremy has ever wanted to do… yet… I’m often cursed with the thought that I haven’t done ENOUGH.
Some of that propels me to try harder. To come up with more ideas, innovations, etc.
But… a lot of that is negative self-talk that can be paralyzing.
So, how do I get through it?
One step at a time.
But seriously. Here’s some things I do in order to quell that inner imposter.
In recovery they talk about making a “Blessing lists” - It’s a great habit, to recount the good things in your life. When you do that, it’s easier to juxtapose them against the pretend bad things you’ve made up, and inevitably you’ll feel better about where you’re at.
But, what about when it’s bad. Like, country music lost your dog, your job, and your wife bad?
Keep writing. Keep pushing.
I remember a pastor using the common phraseology from the Old Testament that denotes something that happened. You’ve heard it before, but this time, he said it in a particular way that has forever changed some of my outlook.
“And it came to pass…”
He changed the emphasis to sound like “And IT came TO pass…”
Whatever you are going through, IT is only here for a moment. Only here to pass away.
So, that’s my mindset going down to be amongst my tribe. To take a deep breath, put one foot in front of the other, and keep going.
You should keep going to…
You're certainly no imposter, Jeremy. And thanks for the lessons.
Hope to see you at the show, bud!
