🎶It’s beginning to look like…I have a lot to do before Christmas!🎶
Well, it’s that time of the year.
where Mariah Carey is singing, I ate too many carbs, andI make a mad dash out to the stores to figure out what everybody in my life needs for the holiday.
This does not make for a peaceful holiday season.
Instead, it makes for a very stressed out season.
My cup is empty as they say.
And how to fill It back up?
Often times when faced with this sort of thing, I rely on a blessing list, something they use in recovery. You write down everything that you are thankful for, and as I reflect on my past year, there is a lot!
I’ve written quite a few comic books, also quite a few episodes of animated television, and for that I’m extremely proud.
I’m grateful that I get to work with so many incredible collaborators from editors to artists to colorists and letterers. To be able to work in a field that I’ve been a fan of since before I can remember.
It’s also been in wonderful time of meeting other fans! I’ve had such a great time traveling to conventions and hanging out with fellow nerds, talking about superheroes and movies.
This year I’ve been to Chicago, Boston, New York, Canada, Disneyland, D.C., Disneyland again, Antelope Canyon, swam with otters, Vegas, Road trips, More Disneyland… I’m tired!
But, onward we march.
Another way that I fill the cup sort of speak is by watching movies and reading books, trying to get creatively inspired.
Another way that I “fill the cup” is by watching movies and reading books, they tried and true attempt to get creatively inspired.
My great friend Jim and I headed to the New Beverly For what will probably be our last midnight movie of all time. Ninja III the domination!
It was fantastic!
And then I came home and just watched one Cannon film after another.
Enter the Ninja, American Ninja, Avenging Force, Raw Force, and toooed it off with the 80’s classic Navy Seals.
I’ve been reading a lot of of old comics, but stopped briefly to read Claudia Gray’s Star Wars novel Lost Stars.
I’ve met Claudia on a few occasions. Incredibly sweet. And the book was wonderful! I haven’t read a Star Wars novel since the wedge and Tilly’s series rogue squadron from the extended universe back in the day.
with that, I feel like I’m starting to get my mojo back.
Speaking of which, here’s what my mojo will be producing this coming year…
YEAR OF MOJO (Not the Marvel one)
There’s a LEGO project that I worked on for the last couple years that will finally see the light of day this summer. I I was head, writer and story, editor, and was lucky to work with some of the best writers in the business. Can’t wait for you to see what we cooked up.
Also had a great time writing a bit for the show “Legends of Evergreen Hills” available in the Chickfilet play app.
It’s a very sweet and thoughtful fantasy story about kids learning to cultivate hope in the world. No cows, no chicken sandwiches, just a lot of fun.
There’s also another animated movie that I wrote coming out in the fall, though I can’t really talk about that yet.
I’ve also written a whole ton of comic books!
Today we have the World’s Finest special starring Green arrow and Green Lantern with a back up story of Green Lantern and the flash. Art duties on the first one done by The great!, Lucas Mayer and the second one done by my friend Travis Mercer. These guys are fantastic.
of course I have the fractured spectrum special coming up…
and since everyone liked the last commercials, my kids did I paid them to do another one!
ALSO…
We’ve got Aquaman number one hitting the stands in January. We’ve got Green Lantern Corp that I’m writing with the great Mr. Morgan Hampton coming in February. And of course the ongoing Green Lantern book and the ongoing Flash Gordon book.
Which, I believe issue five is out… or will be soon?
And since this will probably be my last Substack of the year, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has been following my adventures, and to those that have supported me, either by buying what I’ve been writing or leaving nice comments on my various social media channels. It means a lot!
I pray this season is filled with laughter, joy and a ton of peace. To my fellow Christians, I leave you with a favorite CS Lewis quote “In our world too, a stable once had something inside it that was bigger than our whole world.”
Merry Christmas!!!
I really liked Lost Stars too! Those Wedge Antilles books are always the best. You should get them for your girls!
Hey Jeremy,
Can't wait to see what all is coming next year! Sounds incredibly exciting. Have you started planning your cons yet? I reached out to Comic Sketch Art about possibly getting you for a Texas show.
