First up, WE GOT A BRAND NEW PUPPY!
Introducing…
SMASH ADAMS!
About the name.... When my wife and I were dating, I
told her if we ever got married and had kids, and one happened to be a boy, we’d have to name him “Smash Adams” thereby securing his vocation as rock star, or Professional wrestler.
She thought I was joking, until we got married and said, “Woah, woah, I told you…we have to name him that!”
Well, God was smiling on my wife and we had two daughters instead, but NOW, I have my son! lol SMASH! Isn’t he adorbs.
Also this weekend, I watched my daughter just absolutely CRUSH her belt test at Hapkido. So much so that some guy came up to me and told me that my daughter was a “natural” and that his son…well…notsomuch. My chest puffed out a little bit in the moment, as if I had something to do with it…or did I!
Here’s a pic of Charlotte the first day I was a stay at home dad so many moons ago.
Okay, comic book time!!!
Look at these trades. I had no idea that Green Lantern was being collected this quickly. With the Flash it took about a year before we got our first trade - so Yay team!
In other news, I’ve started commissioning covers for a creator owned comic, and the initial sketches have me OVER THE MOON. Sure, I’m still filled with fear and trepidation about doing this myself, but I’m also REALLY excited.
Next week, I’ll be headed back into the writer’s room, where I’ll be leading up an incredible group of writers on a new season of the LEGO show I’ve been working on.
It’ll be nice to be shooting ideas up on a white board and drinking copious amounts of Red Bull in the process.
ALSO
This SATURDAY - NEW COMIC BOOK DAY at your local comic shop. Go in, get some comics, and hopefully, HOPEFULLY, your comic shop will have FLASH GORDON #0.
That’s my first issue in the Flash Gordon universe, and it promises to be a doozy. Please check it out. Did I mention it’s free?
If you want me to sign a copy, come to COLLECTOR’S PARADISE in Winnetka!
CRAFT SERVICES
This one should come as a no brainer, but I’m going to mention it anyway.
The internet has a collection of almost every dang screenplay for a movie you love a google search away.
Now… think about your favorite movie. The one that you’ve seen a billion times (For me, Big Trouble in Little China.) Now, head over to that search bar and look for a pdf of it.
Don’t just download it - READ IT! I GUARANTEE something in that script will stand out to you.
Maybe you’ll be surprised about how basic it is. Maybe you’ll be challenged with the scene descriptions or flabbergasted about things that were cut, etc.
But READ IT.
One of the reasons I thought (maybe foolishly) that I could write screenplays is because once upon a time, my first Hollywood internship was for the great DINO DE LAURENTIIS. While I was at his office, I poured over all the scripts that he had commissioned, catalogued alphabetically and per draft.
At the time I was doing coverage for scripts coming in, and reading everything I could get my hands on.
I was a script-eating machine.
And here’s what I learned - most of them weren’t that great. Even the ones that got made!
Instant confidence booster.
So, go read your favorite movie. Maybe you’ll be inspired. Maybe you’ll be depressed. But probably, you’re going to learn SOMETHING that’s going to help you move forward.
ADIOS!

Looking forward to Flash Adams! Went to the Mad Cave panel at C2E2 and they said you were such a great fit for the book, so extremely excited to get my hands on issue #0!
