NEW YORK COMIC CON was a blast. There were signings, there were panels, there were announcements.
Yes, I’m going to take a crack at the man living under the sea.
I jokingly told Geoff Johns that I’m on the “Geoff Johns” track, which will inevitably lead to me creating a company called “Phantom Apparatus” or something of that nature.
Hah!
But, I am looking forward to the book. I had the privilege of meeting the artist John Timms who will be handling the art for the book and he’s as incredible as his pencils. Just a top notch dude.
TWO BOOKS CAME OUT recently…
FLASH GORDON 3!
Flash continues to try and get out of PLANET DEATH! This time with the help of one MING THE MERCILESS!
At NYCC I was able to meet Will Conrad in person. WOW, this guy…I’m sure we’re going to do a lot together in the future. He’s just the best.
AND…
THE PENGUIN! I was contacted by DC to do a small ORIGINAL story for this Penguin book, undoubtably a way to try and rope in fans of the Penguin show. The only requirement was to figure out a way to use the name “Mr. Cobb” in continuity that fit with something that might have happened in Tom King’s stellar series
Halloween was a blast. I had NO CLUE what I was going to be, and tried to find an Aquaman costume, but to no avail.
So, the day of, I closed my eyes and said, “Jeremy, what is it you value above all things?”
Of course…this image immediately leapt to the forefront of my mind.
and I knew what I had to do.
THUS, I fulfilled a dream that I didn’t even know I had! To be Chuck Norris, if only for one night.
TOMORROW
REVENGE OF!
I was invited to this shindig last year by the wonderful writer Jordan Blum, but alas, I was in London at the time.
But THIS TIME, I’ll be there with…
SHEESH look at these names. It’s insane.
I won’t be charging for autographs, but I’ll have a bunch of my comps there for purchase if you want something.
It SHOULD be fun.
In the next couple of months I’ll have quite a few GOOD UPDATES coming your way. Some surprising (at least to me) and some just a reaffirmation that picked the correct career.
CRAFT SERVICES
So, I’ve found myself in a bit of hot water recently. It’s MOSTLY my fault and comes from the fact that I often don’t know when to SHUT UP.
To say this is a problem that I’ve been struggling with my entire life is downplaying it. I like to talk. I like people. And I like to share “secrets.”
As of late I’ve had a few instances where this predilection has come back to bite me in the butt.
I was ruminating over this problem of my own making with a good friend. Sure, I was looking for some sympathy, but because he was a good friend, I didn’t find any.
“It’s a form of gossip and you should stop it.”
Yeesh.
He’s right.
I think the need to be “included” weighs heavy on me. Maybe it’s the years of NOT being included that causes me to compulsively spill every little detail of all that I have going on in my world, but it’s also a strange form of narcissism.
I need to think about the others involved. The other people that TRUST me with something.
I’m going to try and work on it. Moreso than I have in the past. Maybe that’s why I’m writing it here. Just so there’s a record of it, somewhere in the internet ether I can look back on.
So, don’t be afraid to say, “I can’t really talk about it,” because that is going to be a lot less painful than the angry email/call/message from someone you trusted feeling betrayed.
SO TAKE TIGHT CONTROL OF YOUR TONGUE! Let your work speak for yourself. There really is NOTHING to prove beyond that.
Alright, I hope all is well as we march toward Christmas!
Jeremy
You are at the top of your game Jeremy. Love how engaged you are with fans. I am sure there is a balance between remaining open to discussion without revealing too much. I am so happy as a fan you are on Green Lantern, Flash Gordon and Aquaman soon! Even the Penguin was awesome! Keep up the great work. You are one of the best in the business!
Sorry to hear stuff is not going well in some places, but really excited about Aquaman! I'm curious - do you have any recommendations for what Aquaman comics we fans should read to get in the right mindset for your run! (I know it's supposed to be new reader friendly and all, but we want to know what kinds of inspiration we're looking at!)
